MASA Travel Coach Selection Process
The MASA travel committee is responsible for selecting all MASA travel soccer coaches. Interested applicants must submit a written letter or email expressing their desire to coach a team to the MASA travel coordinator and the MASA President. The application letter should include the following information: coach name, address, telephone number, email address, team age group (U10/U11/U12/etc.), team gender (Boys or Girls), coaching licenses held, and a description of coaching experience. Applications will be accepted anytime during the regularly scheduled MASA Spring in-house season. The deadline for application submission is midnight on the last Saturday of the regularly scheduled MASA Spring in-house season.
After the deadline for application submission passes the travel committee will review all applications and select a coach for each team. The travel committee will evaluate the applications on the basis of coaching qualifications and coaching experience. The committee will review and consider any feedback that MASA board, age group coordinators, or the travel committee may have received about the applicant. Upon completing the application review, the travel committee will select the head coach of the team. The selected application will be notified that they have been selected and given the opportunity to accept or decline the position.
Once the position has been accepted the selection will be published on the MASA website. The newly selected coach and travel committee will then work together to fill the assistant coach positions and start the Travel Player Selection Process.
(*) Parties wishing to appeal the travel committee coach selection may appeal the decision to the Travel Appeals Board which is defined as the MASA Executive Board (President, Vice President, Treasure, Secretary) and the travel coordinator (or designated travel committee member). The appealing party will be required to submit a $50 Appeal Fee prior to the appeal board hearing. The appeal hearing will presided over by the MASA President. The appealing party will be given a set amount of time to present their appeal and the selected coach will be given the opportunity to reply. The appeal hearing board will then have the opportunity to ask questions of either party. After the questions have been answered the appeal hearing will be adjourned. The decision of the hearing board will be communicated to all parties within 48 hours of the hearing. The appeal hearing board’s decision is final. In the event that the appeal successfully overturns the original decision the Appeal Fee will be refunded.
